Wrightsville Beach is a charming coastal destination that doesn’t attract the spring breakers that so many beach communities across America do. That makes this sleepy beach town the ideal choice for a family vacation. Your kids will love the following attractions in this seaside North Carolina town.

Head to the Beach

The beach is the biggest draw for most kids visiting Wrightsville Beach. Its powdery sand is perfect for building sandcastles, and swimming in the waves is lots more fun than doing laps in the hotel pool. With an award-winning Ocean Rescue team on hand, parents can feel confident while their kids are in the water.

Take a Pirate Tour

Scenic tours are usually pretty boring for kids, but not at Wrightsville Beach. Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tours offers an excursion tailor-made for kids led by fearless pirate guide Don Juan Cortez. He leads little ones on a treasure hunt around Masonboro Island, where the famous Captain Kidd is said to have buried his booty centuries ago. With map in hand, you never know what your kids might find!

If your children are a little old for pirates, don’t dismiss a Wrightsville Beach Scenic Tour. Its Eco Scavenge Hunt and Beach Eco Tour were also designed for children.

Meet Local Marine Life

Kids who love animals will adore a visit to the Fred and Alice Stanback Coastal Education Center. It’s normally restricted to school groups, but from June to August it opens its doors to the public every Touch Tank Tuesday. During these special days, young visitors can get up close and personal with the friendly creatures in North Carolina’s waters, such as starfish, sea urchins, and blue crabs.

Play at Wrightsville Beach Park

Your children will sleep well after expending their energy at Wrightsville Beach Park. The playground is always a favorite among younger children, with its swings, slides, and climbing equipment. Older kids might like to bring their sporting equipment so they can have a game on one of the outdoor basketball courts or tennis courts. There’s also a massive open area for games of soccer and flag football or simply running around. The 2.5-mile walking track is the perfect length for a family stroll.

Hang Around Your Kid-Friendly Hotel

After a lot of sightseeing, tempers can flare. When those moods set in, spending a lazy day at the hotel can be the perfect way to recharge the batteries. You can filter Wrightsville Beach hotels through Hotel Planner according to features so you can find a place to stay that suits your family. Wrightsville Beach resorts are typically best for kids.

Pirate scavenger hunts and sandcastle competitions are part of the fun of Sandcampers, a child-friendly summer program at Blockade Runner Beach Resort. The Holiday Inn Resort similarly has KidsClub, which teaches kids fun skills like surfing and martial arts. If your kids are feeling too moody to join in, they might like to cool off in the swimming pool.

With great child-friendly attractions and a relaxing atmosphere, Wrightsville Beach is the vacation destination you and your kids will enjoy.
