A gap year is usually when a students choose to take a break from their studies to do something aside from studying, like work or travel for a year. It was started in the UK in the 1960s, with students traveling abroad to work or volunteer during the gap year. Moving from the UK to Canada or USA for adventure and valuable work experience was another approach by many students for self-growth. Many organizations were developed to help promote all the perks and opportunities available for students to experience life in a foreign region.

With competition for employment for young individuals and the increase of graduates without a job, a lot of students are now considering an year out. Gap year volunteering for students is an option to gain useful life experience, work experience as well and allows one to get a better opportunity of employment in the future.

Volunteer projects include community development, teaching and care work. These projects make a world of difference to lives and highlights that these projects can help aid some issues of the third world countries in health and education.
